Corn Maze, Part 2

Since our group was a bit more laid back about getting through the maze, we decided to take the political quiz. With all our collective wisdom, we only got one answer wrong. (I still take exception to their "right" answer for that one. I don't think the President has to be born in the U.S., I think he has to be a U.S. citizen. Technical difference.)

Discussing the answer. It actually got warm in the maze after a while, we had full sun and the corn was so tall it blocked the wind.

Our group L-R: Jason S., Mr. P, Emily, Stephany, Dad and Me, Megan, and Danny. Thanks Mrs. P. for taking the picture!

There were three bridges in the maze that gave you a good view of your immediate surroundings. In the background you can see the tower for viewing the whole maze. I didn't make the climb this year, but it's a neat sight, and sometimes you can spot your friends if they're close enough.

Which way should we go? Megan, Me, Dad, Emily and Mr. P study the map.

The two Dads were our primary navigators. Sometimes I followed along with my map, sometimes I just walked. It was interesting to see what different people did to keep from being lost. Dad always kept his map with North pointing up, but with all the twists and turns in the maze, I had to turn my map so it looked like what I was seeing!

I made it a little more than half way through, then Baby and I had had enough walking for the day! The rest of our group made it all the way through. Bravo!

Sadie P. and Haley. They were with the girl's competitive group, and made it out just seconds after the boys! I think these two were a little more concerned about gabbing than about winning though. ;-)

The a-MAZE-ing Matthew! At the rate he's growing, next year he'll be looking over the corn! Okay, not quite. The corn was at least eight feet tall. But he is growing quickly.

Haley and I at the pumpkin patch. What a lovely way to enjoy a beautiful Autumn afternoon!

Hooray for fall and friends!

Hi Gretchen,

Looks like you had fun...it's weird how season changes are minimized in the city with all the cement...I didn't realize the corn was so dry and everything!

And I think they were right about the president having to be born in the us b/c George could never be a U.S. President since he wasn't born here even if he becomes a citizen.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_qualifications_for_being_US_President

It is interesting that you brought this up because we were just discussing this the other day. It prompted me to find out for sure. The above link describes best what i have seen at other sites.

It appears you must be a natural born US citizen but do not have to have been born in the US. I guess if you had 2 American parents and they were in, say, Germany, when you were born, you would still be a natural born citizen? That is what i guess it means.

very interesting. I'm going to keep on checkin in on this topic at other sites.

I heard a rumor that Obama was not even a US citizen at birth? Interesting.............hm It is predicted that the info will come out closer to the election. We shall see.

Yup!

And actually, he is a permanent resident, but it still is illegal for him to vote until he becomes a U.S. citizen. (I'm glad that I never have the potential of becoming the First Lady of more than our home:)

"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

Personally, I think that that second comma makes it say that no-one who was not a citizen (natural-born or otherwise) at the time of the Constitution's adoption can be president, meaning that every president born after 17 Sep 1787 has been elected illegally. 8)

The normal interpretation, however, is that the President must be "a natural born Citizen" or "a Citizen of the United States at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution."

I'm pretty sure Krista is right. I remember talking about in in my constitutional law classes, and there was much discussion about that issue during the most recent Republican primary because Arnold Schwarzenegger can't be a candidate since he was born in Austria.

Looks like it was a fun day for you all. We always look forward to a pumpkin patch trip each fall.

BTW, thanks for the link to the site for the free backgrounds. I gave my blog a makeover, too.

Oh...and where do you find these awesome backgrounds? I'm tired of the same old bland ones that blogger offers.
