Strawberries and Cream

After a year of care (and sometime anxious watching) our strawberry plants are bearing fruit!

Every day Kyle brings in about a quart of berries. Our plan was to freeze some, but so far they haven't lasted that long! We've been enjoying them on oatmeal and cereal, as well as a fresh strawberry shake! Yum. We'll see if any get preserved or not. ;-)

In case you're wondering, no, we didn't get cows. My "cream" in this post is the ivory and brown in a 1805 period dress I just finished.

I saw this lovely semi-sheer 100% cotton fabric a few years ago, and someone in the family was kind enough to give it to me for my birthday.

At the time, I planned to make it into a meticulously accurate reproduction, complete with period underthings.

Three and a half years later the plans had changed and I wanted an old fashioned dress I could wear while pregnant or nursing an infant!

It's still a pretty accurate "apron front" dress of the period, but it has more of an eye to simplicity and comfort in it's construction. ;-)

So here I am, enjoying something old fashioned and feminine which fits comfortably at six months pregnant!

Oh yes, one more thing. Our wild roses are blooming.

I love the dress. I only had one nursing blouse and one nursing night gown. They were so handy.
I love the style of this one.
Kyle hasn't called me once this week, and I thought it was the heat, but now I know its the strawberries...hmmm...
Been praying for you both when the temps are up.

I had no idea there could be "nursing" outter garments other than gowns! Wow! I love the dress. It's beautiful.

I am sure there would be a huge market for thesse if you wanted to sew in your "spare time!" ;) What are you going to be doing between feedings from 2 to 5 am??

Wish we still had strawberries...

Love the dress, Gretchen! I want to make at least one (preferably more :) someday. It looks nice on you!
